Alienated Builders
Matz & Hive
Others in his place would have seen it as a crowning achievement: being chosen, among all his peers, to work on a significant sculpture and leave his mark — his talent — on history. But Matz is not one of them. To him, form is nothing without function. He does not consider himself an artist. If he had to define himself, he might say builder. But even that would be a lie. Before devoting himself to the tangible world, Matz was the architect of something far more complex: the current iteration of the Gestalt. When a cyclopean, chimeric hive was discovered on the shores of Kestia by the Muna, Matz was sent to neutralize its hive-mind. After months of research, he resolved to attempt the unthinkable: to enter the consciousness of the swarm and take control of it. On that occasion, the Musubi was not a celebration, but a struggle. He prevailed — but at a terrible cost. He was forever severed from the Gestalt, ensuring the hive could never again threaten the Ordis.
