Changing sides isn't always a matter of choice.
Story
393 AC - It sometimes takes only the slightest thing, a simple idea, to change the course of events. It's never easy to implant it, especially when the mind is fully conscious. But when it's preoccupied, it's easier to slip through the net. The distracted mind may then confuse the implant with inspiration, intuition or any other reasoned thought. And that's exactly what I want to take advantage of. Naturally, it's a forbidden art, written in black and white in my Faction's Prohibitions. But I'm working here in their interests, for their own good. And anyway, the important thing is to avoid being caught. That's why I need finesse and to proceed stealthily, without leaving any tracks.
Their plan is solid and their actions are well coordinated. In other circumstances, they would have got top marks for planning and execution. But starting from a flawed premise will obviously result in failure, regardless of the skill on display. That makes my task harder. They're not in the habit of questioning orders or deviating from an established strategy. Thankfully, every mission has its obstacles and unforeseen circumstances. The stakes change, the situation evolves – and those changes require flexibility. And I'm now focusing on that flexibility. Preventing a deployment here, spontaneously changing a position there… Like pawns that you move around on a chessboard to free up space to take action. With a series of little adjustments, I try to create a window of opportunity, hoping it will be enough…
