Gargoyle

At the slightest sign of intrusion, these stone lookouts come to life and sound the alarm.

Story

393 AC - The lookouts placed by the Chimaera are blue marble with white veins: gargoyles, sculpted all along the deck, constantly scanning the sky, just like she does. Like the Alter Ego of the Aegis captain, their movement is restricted to a bare minimum – just a head that sometimes turns to look out into the distance. Since the first attacks, security measures have been reinforced, as has the general state of alert. And I'm more vigilant too, maybe more so than necessary… Like these silent and virtually motionless sentinels, I'm on my guard. Over the last few days, I've rarely left the interior of the flagship, and when I do go out, I'm always escorted by my Raptors. There haven't been any more attempts on my life.

All I know is that Gulrang and Tocsin are unlikely to be the ones behind the attacks on me. They would have the ability to do it in terms of Alteration, but I can't imagine them betraying me. So who could it be? When I probed the subconscious of the prison guard, I must have set off an alarm. The strongbox had been emptied of all compromising memories, of course, but the architect of this mechanism had installed a discreet warning system. Had De Graaf been informed? Suddenly, one of the gargoyles raises its head and looks to the west. Zephyr takes flight. It's coming from the Pelagonian Quadrant. The Mandjet's sirens start to sound almost immediately, and I open myself to the Gestalt again. The call for help cries out across all channels. It's coming from a mining station. The AES Sune is the first to respond to the distress signal.

Inspiration

Gargoyles are grotesque and monstrous statues that look out from the roofs of European churches like sentinels. They also drain water running off the roofs of these religious buildings, spitting it out of their half-open mouths. They were considered by many to be guardians, and their role was to protect these sacred places and drive away evil, both demons and sinners.
