Kauri's Intervention

"This senseless hunt must stop!"
Story
393 AC - Why? The little human stands on her bird-thing, making a shield to protect me. Even worse, she has her back to me. I could just open my mouth and simply swallow her up. So, why? Why defend me like this and take my side when all I want is to destroy them? Emerald-colored waves swirl around her, transforming all the projectiles that the hunters can throw into flowered branches and boxwood thickets. And I remember. I remember Bronté. Her cloudy hair, just like her sister's. They would climb on my back, desperate for me to give them a ride. But that was before the end of the Fallow Period, before the biostimulants…
The young woman she had become stepped forward. She had a gentle smile, the same as when she was young and wanted to climb on my back. My instincts told me something wasn't right. Her sister was tense. There were guards all around. Bronté placed a hand on my head, right between my eyes. "You must stop interfering," she said. Stop? But that was my role… Without warning, the serrated harpoons, attached to heavy chains, had pierced my wings. I start to growl just thinking about the betrayal. The human had deceived me. She was traitorous and treacherous. She was greedy and destructive. Another ruse. Another betrayal. There's a sudden shock, and a voice echoes in my head. Wait.
