Abandoned Depot

"There's no doubt about it... These ruins are the work of people from the City of Scholars." - Abiram

Story

393 AC - Golden fringes, glittering with Sap crystallized by time. A modern architectural style, yet ancient at the same time… I'm no specialist, but even I can see the similarities with the City of Scholars. And with Sofia. Its residents had left their underground city to take refuge in the sky, using the Aerolith they'd found in the depths. To escape the Hunger, most likely, although that was ultimately just speculation. On the horizon, the pillar of light illuminates the sky. Could it be them calling us? I pass through the door of the silo. Its surface is made up of some unknown alloy, but as tough as it is, it hasn't stopped nature from partially reclaiming its territory… It was probably a warehouse or way station.

I push aside the cascade of climbing plants that have made their home inside, growing abundantly in the dark and humid space. This place must have been abandoned years or even decades ago. One of my colleagues hypothesized that all of these buildings were supposed to be temporary, built during one stage of this civilization's migration. But looking at it closely, this depot had obviously been built to last. I open one of the many lockers and find it empty. Why bother to build such a sturdy storage building if it was only for a limited time? No, something wasn't quite right with that assumption. I open a wide drawer, with a feeling that it might turn out to be a mortuary tray with a body. But this one's empty too.
