The World of Altered

During a planetary cataclysm known as the Confluence, a magical storm swept across the world, transforming everything in its path. This hurricane was born from the collision between reality and the world of imagination.

Asgartha

Isolated human communities managed to survive this apocalypse, and the altered world that emerged from it. Answering a mystical call, these peoples converged on the peninsula that would later be named Asgartha, with the goal of building a new common civilization together.

Now, roughly five hundred years after the cataclysm, humanity finally decides to venture beyond the borders of its new home. To that end, it launches the Rediscovery Effort, the greatest undertaking in its history. Beyond the limits of Asgartha, humanity knows that a magical phenomenon — the Tumult — continues to alter the world.

The Exalts

These shifting lands were previously too hostile for anyone wishing to venture there, but now humanity can count on the Exalts, pairs of explorers whose powers allow them to survive in these unstable places.

The Exalts master Alteration, the power to materialise their imagination within reality. To do so, they harness and use Mana, the very energy of the Tumult. It is through this vanguard that humanity intends to explore the unknown and seek the mythical source of the Tumult, in order to permanently stabilise this world turned to chaos.

30 pairs of explorers stand at the forefront of the Rediscovery Effort. Each Exalt consists of an Alterator and their Alter Ego, a Chimera of the Tumult.

A brief timeline of Asgartha

  1. ??? — The Great Wandering

    The Nomads of the Tumult

    Survivors of the Confluence endure in an altered world, travelling endlessly to escape the ravages of the Tumult. Following a mystical call, all human tribes head towards one and the same peninsula.

  2. 1 AC — Founding of Asgartha

    The cradle of civilisation

    All human communities come together to found Asgartha, the new cradle of civilisation. Through a decree called the Concord, they unite as one people.

  3. 115 AC — The Coming of the Kraken

    The Lost Province

    A terrible Leviathan settles in the western region of Asgartha. A magical wall is erected to prevent the Kraken from sowing ruin and destruction across the rest of the peninsula.

  4. 194 AC — Exploration complete

    The peninsula fully settled

    After nearly two centuries of exploration, the Asgartha peninsula is almost entirely settled, from its capital Arkaster to the island of Suspira.

  5. 259 AC — The Republic

    Asgartha becomes a Republic

    After having been a Kingdom and a Federation, Asgartha becomes a participative Republic, led by a Basileus or a Basilissa.

  6. 295 AC — The Covenant

    A non-aggression pact

    After a series of devastating conflicts, the Factions sign an immutable pact of non-aggression and understanding, all committing to cooperate for the common good.

  7. 368 AC — The Rediscovery Effort

    Into the unknown

    Basileus Avkan ruun-Heshkari proclaims the Rediscovery Effort, a great common undertaking to reclaim the lands still ravaged by the Tumult.
